A friend recommended this to me as an audiobook and it was a nice screen-free way to pass the time in quarantine. I didn't realize it was part of a series until I added it on Goodreads, but I'll try out the second book and see how I like it.
It definitely feels like YA I have moved on from reading, but I'm curious to see how the 2nd book will be. I liked listening to the author's Q&A at the end of the audiobook to learn what her inspiration was for writing this.

This book surprised me. I picked it up just for fun, and I didn't expect to be as sucked in as I was. It's been a while since I've read it, but it was a fun change from the "mainstream" dystopian YA's I was used to reading. I found myself loving the main character more and more as the book went on.
This YA book set in the future asks interesting questions about the regulation of medical procedures and presents a bleak forecast of life after antibiotic overuse. I didn't always love the telling, but I was engrossed in the story. Three and a half stars
This was interesting. From the beginning, I had my money on Jenna being either a robot or a clone. Turns out I was both wrong and right. The mystery is revealed pretty quickly, and then the ethical dilemmas involved take over the rest of the book.
They were pretty wild ethical dilemmas, and both sides seemed to have some compelling concerns; I am still not sure which side I'm on. The contrast set up between Jenna and Dane was thought-provoking: what defines humanity? Dane is one hundred percent "natural and native species," but is he, really? Is Jenna more human, even though she isn't, technically? Given the gnarly issues, the ending and wrap-up seemed too perfect and too easy.

hahaha it has Jenna in it hehe.. GREAT BOOK! Nothing you expect to happen happens... It's an amazing book!
uuuuuggghhhhh why do I keep trying to read books like this?
Not sure how much I liked this book. It could have gone a lot deeper with the characters especially Dane, her parents and Mr Bender. I liked the discussing of bioethics and how far is too far. But this story seemed quite soft and could have delved deeper. Wouldn't recommend it

my mom has been telling me to read this book for months now and i told her i’d get to when i’d get to it. i should have read it sooner. it was a great read.

Reminded me a lot of the Wired series by Robin Wasserman except for the stark contrast that Jenna is alone.
