it's heartening to read a book set in the future where the author hasn't given really stupid names to new inventions. we're not really sure what year it is when jenna fox wakes up from her lengthy coma, but technology and medicine have advanced significantly.
jenna awakes with no memory, but little by little it returns. she watches home movies of herself growing up and notices changes: their family used to live in boston, now they are in california. a scar has vanished from her skin. she can't taste.
jenna's parents refer vaguely to "an accident" but hide the details and try to keep jenna indoors, away from strangers. what happened? as jenna slowly regains her memory, she comes to realize why it's so difficult to know the truth.

My daughter was assigned this book for her literature circle at school. I was nosy. Glad I read it...what an interesting story! Might have to check out the other two books in the trilogy.

Read for class. Really enjoyed the discussions we had about. About to write a paper on the importance of religion throughout the novel. Will not be continuing with the other two books in the series. I may not even keep this book on my shelves because I doubt I'll ever feel the urge to read it again.

Really fascinating read. This book raises some really interesting ethics questions and will get readers thinking. It's also surprisingly fast paced and suspenseful, with the plot thickening consistently as the story progresses. This book does what sci-fi does best by asking a big "what if" question and exploring the possibility from many angles.
funny
I really enjoyed this book. What are the consequences of intensive medical intervention? Just because we can, should we? Who makes those decisions? This would be a great high school read and basis for discussion, as in some ways it parallels the questions of identity faced by teenagers, coming of age.
