I just posted an ask in the "What's The Name of That Book" when the title hit me! Yeah, I remember reading these as my gateway to chapter books in 1st Grade, this was the STUFF. However I'll have to read these books again so I can rate them - It's been some time.

My daughter was reading this, from her school library. The school year ended before she could finish, so I went to borrow from our public library. They didn't have it, so I got it from Inter-Library Loan (a whole state away!), and once she finished it, I read it.
It was a pretty fast read, for me. Took only two days. However, it was well written and very interesting--I'd like to read more in the series.

I love the show this was based on, but the book itself is a little too... predictable for my tastes.

I was obsessed with this series when I was a kid but I never got to finish it. I am determined to collect all the books and finally finish this series. It was so formative for me. It helped spark my love of magic and fantasy and took an already existing love of animals and nurtured it even further.
Reading this as an adult it wasnt as impactful as I remember it being as a kid, but that's ok because I am now well out of the target demographic. Just going down the memory lane was enough to make me thoroughly enjoy my reading experience.
I will say the characters do come off as a little flat and inconsistent at times, however I feel like I remember that getting better in the following books so we'll see. Regardless, it didnt bother me much.
