I thought if they weren't together most of the book it would be annoying and boring but I was wrong. I really liked how it goes through scenes with Alexander in war. I found them to be really interesting.

”We walk alone through this world, but if we’re lucky, we have a moment of belonging to something, to someone, that sustains us through a lifetime of loneliness.”
4 stars. It took me entirely too long to finish this book because December decided to kick me in the face health wise and I just didn’t have the strength, but when I was reading it and actually in the story, I thought this was book was better than the first one by a long shot. The character development between Alexander and Tatiana was fantastic and they both have grown so much.
This one was much easier to get into and I loved the fact that they spent majority of it apart because it made for some fantastic angst. Years go by of them trying to get back to each other and it was so heartbreaking. I admit, I was not here for the romance in the last one, and there’s still some moments where Alexander makes me nervous, but for the most part I was all for their love story here. It’s engrossing and captivating and you really do feel for them when everything keeps getting in their way.
I can’t really say too much about this one without spoilers, but it really was a great read. The writing is amazing; Simons way with words is admirable. She really knows how to paint a picture and set the mood. This book evoked a lot of emotions out of me, mainly anger and sadness and then in the end I was very content. It ends just right and does make me eager to get to book three sooner rather than later.
Tatiana and Alexander’s story is very much the epitome of an ‘epic romance’ and I get it now. I want the absolute best for these two, especially after all the shit they went through in this book but I have a feeling that book three is going to be the one to break me. I’m excited, honestly.
Overall, a fantastic installment in the series and I am anxious and excited to see how their story wraps up.

How is this even possible? Paullina Simons destroys my heart over and over. This book was as good as the first one and now I'll probably need half an year to recover enough to read the last one.

I guess I'm just re-reading the whole series again! I also forgot how much I don't really like the second book as much as the others. I skimmed most of the Alexander backstory chapters.
Trigger Warnings: war, violence, death, loss of loved ones, and physical assault

Once again my heart has been snatched and thrown into the ocean of feels...sigh.

I'm not going to review this one very thoroughly-- I said it all in the review of the first book. I love Tania and Alexander and I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK down. We find out a lot about Alexander in this book. This book is mainly about war, where the first book was about first love in a time of war. This book is pain and strife and endless suffering for our hero and a nearly equal amount of suffering for our heroine. It continues to be epic. Tatiana comes into herself, into her complete and utter badness in this book. She is a force to be reckoned with. If there is a war on, I want her on my side.
The ending is happy, though for me, it wasn't enough-- I needed more. I needed an epilogue, or something. Book three is going to be my epilogue I guess.

I loved this book as much as The Bronze Horseman (the first book in the trilogy). It was heartbreaking seeing the couple struggle and try to reunite. I loved reading about Alexander and his childhood and experiences moving to Russia from America. I spent much of this book crying, and am torn between grabbing the third book immediately because I'm hooked to the story, and delaying the inevitable because I don't want to see this story end. I give this 5 stars, easily.
