Well, that relationship didn’t end well.

It’s Mica’s senior year, and she is ready for a change. Tired of what feels like a small life in a small Vermont town, she feels drawn to stranger Sam. He’s only supposed to be in town for a couple weeks, but something is growing between the two of them. The more time that she spends with Sam, the more Mica starts to change and the more Mica starts to see.

Maybe her small life in a small Vermont town isn’t so small after all.

This one is definitely a ride. Complete with chapter inscriptions from the Book of Revelation and a breakup resulting in a blowup of biblical proportions, this one is good for fans of the Scooby Gang found family and teenagers taking on the ultimate evil aspects of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (or similar aspects in newer iterations of that narrative). Breakup from Hell would make a fun campy movie or teen dramedy series.

I received an advance copy of the book from HarperCollins Children’s Books, HarperTeen, and NetGalley. All review opinions are my own.

4.5 stars. I really liked this book. It threw me off that it was located in Vermont because I would read something and be like HEY I KNOW THIS PLACE and the fact that St Mikes is like... THE place. I live right across from it and honestly it did kind of help me picture everything a lot better. It wasn't five stars because I didn't really like the "WTF" and other weird gen z kind of comments, but I also kind of appreciated it? It was layered thick sometimes but it was also funny so hence the 4.5 stars. It was a good book, I devoured it and genuinely had fun with reading it.

Buffy the Vampire meets Supernatural meets Lucifer in this YA paranormal title.

Super fun twist on the “chosen ones come into their own” trope: the main character discovers she has a part to play in fighting the minions of Satan, just at the same time she discovers that her new boyfriend isn’t all he seems to be. If you enjoy all the angels and demons storylines in Supernatural, this will be right up your alley.

Well this was an interesting read. It has some things that I myself don't think should be in a YA book. Check the trigger warnings. But the storyline was ok the book was ok. I read it I didn't hate it. Just kind of feel like I wanted more with every turn of the page.

I got some vibes from that TV show Lucifer in the mix. It was an interesting storyline. There were some parts where you just flew threw. The authors style of writing was good but I felt like there was something holding back like if they had done this as an adult book it could have rocked our world. I asked my 14yr old if she wanted to read this and after reading the synopsis her response was no thanks i'm good.

I wanted to like this more than I did. It’s a face pacing YA rom-com, that for the most part was enjoyable, but there was just too many scripture and Catholic references and other pop-culture references that I just personally don’t like.

I listened to it on audiobook and I’m glad I did because I’m pretty sure it would’ve gotten a lower rating if I had read it.

With all of my harsh comments, it was fun and easygoing which was what I needed at the moment. I would only suggest this to someone with a particular ask.

#netgalleyarc This took me back to my Buffy The Vampire Slayer days. This was a fun, quick, YA read that I will def be purchasing for my Hs library. The characters were funny and charismatic. There are so many Ya romance/fantasy books out there but this one just hit different. It didn’t try too hard and was just enjoyable.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this novel. 3.5/5 stars?

Let me preface this with 1) I don't really know what I just read and 2) this would make an AMAZING short tv series or a movie.

I thought I was getting a cute romcom...nope. Teenagers are descended from angels and come into their powers to prevent the spawn of Satan from stealing a priceless relic and turning Earth into Hell. Like...WHAT? The romance part at the beginning is cute but also like SO many red flags with Sam...and then Mica finding weird strength and her and her friends having fire and brimstone visions while you're just going WHAT AM I READING.

I really like Mica and how action packed this was. I also like how it combined Catholicism with the whole "fighting demons and hell" and the influence of Puerto Rican culture (Mica is Puerto Rican) and how Abeula plays into the story.

Like...I kind of want more in this series because I'm curious about the lore and what not...but I think it's a standalone. It's left pretty open with potential for other stories with angelic teenagers...but like...I both loved this and questioned what I was reading??
