I liked The Tyrant's Tomb a little bit less than The Burning Maze. The initial half of the book started off incredibly slow but the second half was a drastic change in my enjoyment. As usual, I loved Apollo's character arc and it was fun seeing the previous cast of characters from the The Heroes of Olympus series. Without spoiling too much, I appreciated how Rick handled the conclusion of Reyna's arc from The Heroes of Olympus - she was far from my favorite character in those books but I've quickly grown to like her in this.

What I didn't like was how this book introduced a new villain that was non-threatening IMO. It felt like a filler to the series finale and didn't contribute a whole ton to the story. I still don't particularly like Meg as a protagonist and felt like
SpoilerCaligula and Commodus were taken down way too fast.
. Additionally,
SpoilerI don't like how Rick just magically explained away how Frank survived despite seemingly sacrificing himself to take Caligula down. If you could just save him with a half-assed explanation like that, surely Jason didn't need to die in the previous novel.

All my grievances aside, this was okay. I had fun coming back to Camp Jupiter and I'm looking forward to seeing how Rick chooses to end this series.

There was a scene with Arabic written backwards (left to right instead of right to left). How does one manage to write Arabic backwards? How did no one catch that?
"Good-bye, Apollo," said the Sibyl's voice, clearer now. "I forgive you. Not because you deserve it. Not for your sake at all. But because I will not go into oblivion carrying hate when I can carry love."
The entire book was just okay. I didn't really care too much for what happened, especially as Jason's death felt like it just happened and didn't really matter.

Lavina ended up being my MVP and favorite this book but she wasn't here for like half of it... so the award gets passed down to Reyna, confirmed aroace! Who. Also wasn't here for half of this book. At least I didn't end up holding my breath the entire book, waiting for Nico or Percy or Annabeth to come!-

oh. wait, I did. oops.
