The thirteenth installment in Georgie's adventures provided the expected fluff, silliness and lightness, however it did lack a bit in the fun-charming-heartwarming parts because of the absence of so many beloved characters due to the setting. Kenya, the landscape and the traveling were described beautifully and also the dark and horrible parts of the colonial time weren't brushed over - so from time to time it felt very uncomfortable how the British described the Kenyans.

Several loose ends and holes in this one, and I didn’t enjoy it. Bowen took a risk here and I’m not sure it was successful.

I love this series but this book was a let down and I got fed up with all the “Golly’s”and the fact that Darcy tricked & lies to Georgie yet again... sigh. It really wasn’t her story, though, it was more if a morality tale. The ending was predictable and felt forced. But no matter the problems with this one, I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Not as engrossing as others in the series. And what's up with not resolving one of the plot lines? That seems odd, because Ms. Bowen is a talented, experienced writer who should know better.

There are rumblings of history here -- mention of Hitler and what's coming. It will be interesting to see Darcy's role in that. Hopefully it'll cause our heroine to grow up a bit. She'll need to.
