2 stars purely for the nostalgia.
This book is awful. The characters are horrendous (Jessica got torn to shreds in this book poor girl). Edward is creepy. The "she's not like other girls" rhetoric is tired. Yet the 12 year old inside me loved every second of it. Couldn't say I'd recommend but I stand by the fact that there will never be a greater meme mine than the Twilight series.

This book really makes me realize that Edward Cullen was the perfect role for Robert Pattinson to use as a stepping stone to his eventual Batman casting. I wish I had been taking shots every time Edward said something akin to 'I am vengeance' within these pages because I would've gotten a decent buzz going.
Focusing on the book though, I loved it for the sole reason that it allowed us to see more of the other Cullens and expand on what they do when Bella isn't around. The entire rest of the family is full of such characters and it's so interesting to see how they all interact with each other - my favorite little tidbit was how Jasper and Emmett will purposefully leave Edward out of their hobbies and little games because Eddie's a little cheater and reads their minds the whole time. No one likes a cheater, Eddie boy.
Edward's pov on the whole of the first book was a very interesting insight to get. Understanding how the plot played out and how Meyer's interpretation of vampires struggle through interactions with the humans around them definitely made some of the more red flag moments of Twilight a little more palatable and a bit more interesting. I do still find some of Edward's behaviors a bit of a red flag; there was absolutely no reason for him to be breaking into her room on a nightly basis, and I do still find it really creepy that he and his family relied on manhandling Bella and treating her like a doll rather than a person, but seeing the events unfold from the vampiric perspective and having that insight rather than hearing it as a side comment in Bella's perspective and having her write it off because she lacks basic common sense and self-preservation made every cringe moment a lot easier to swallow.
Overall, good book. I liked this rendition of the first book's story much more than the original. In the future, if Meyer continues to keep milking this series for all it's worth, I really hope we get other character's povs or spinoffs into the more interesting members of the Cullen family, if not deeper dives into other covens (i.e. the Egyptians, the Irish, the last remaining Romanians, Heidi and Victoria's original coven, etc.)

It was really cool to see Twilight from Edward's point of view, but goddamn did it break my heart all over again. Every single time I read a twilight novelization and Edward leaves I just want to scream and cry. I should really write a fanfiction where he DOESNT leave. But whatever. The book was really good and I am really glad to have read it.

i liked reading this story from Edward's point of view. It gives the reader a greater insight into Edward's mind and why he does a lot of what he does. I loved the story of tracking James from Edwards POV as well.

Wow. Have we really been waiting 12 years for this book? It did not disappoint. For me anyways, since I am a Twilight fan.

I... I don’t even know what to say. I definitely didn’t dislike this book, but like I didn’t particularly enjoy me reading experience? Idk maybe I’m just being weird but I feel like I didn’t enjoy seeing Bella from Edward’s perspective. Like it annoyed me how he was constantly comparing her to other girls in the school and saying how she was so much more morally correct than them and how he commented on how she didn’t need makeup because she was so ~naturally beautiful~ My favorite part of this book was actually seeing how the cullens interacted with each other as a family and I high key wish Stephanie Meyer had just written a book about like Alice and Jasper’s love story or something. I feel like I sound really negative haha, I truthfully didn’t dislike this book, it was just a strange experience from start to finish.
*Also, if you’re going to read this book try to get it second hand so you’re not directly supporting Stephanie Meyer and donate to the Quileute tribe’s fund to move their school to higher ground.
