Amazing story! Really hard to read at some points, but the characters were so thoroughly written about deeply. I couldn't put it down. I'm not sure on the ending though!

Mixed feelings about this book. The prose is excellent. The beautiful prose and setting was my favourite thing about it. I was angry with the protagonist and hated the ending. I dislike ambiguous endings and I felt the author had played with my emotions as a reader - misleading me. I didn't love it, but it's a heart-wrenching read and worth your time.

Second time through this and still frustrated by the flawed characters in the book. So many mixed emotions.

Definitely a page-turner but ugh the ending! And why were there so many references to people peeing?

Would I recommend this book to a friend? Probably not. Was it an enjoyable read? Mostly. Let me explain. Throughout the book, I enjoyed the “Sweet Home Alabama” or “the Notebook” storyline of childhood love vs wonderful current husband and life. Who will she choose? I struggled with the constant bouncing of storylines, from childhood to present day. Sometimes I’d pick my book back up and forget where the setting was. The other thing that was really hard to read was the triggering events of incest and rape. It’s a storyline that’s woven throughout. So, although the writing is beautiful, and she captures the complicated, complex, and often messiness of human relationships and love. I wasn’t wow by this book. I really wanted to be as a Reese Recommendation.

I don't even know where to start. Normally I don't read the back of the books I buy. I don't know why, the thrill of being inside of a bookstore gives me the hope and motivation I need to judge the book by it's cover. I bought the book last summer and haven't touch it until this year. I am so glad I picked it up because it was a five star read.
I will say that the depiction of child SA was too detailed. I think it could of been dialed back. The writing overall is where my rating lands. I will say I was mainly interested in the current point-of-view.
