I was required to read this book for my college softball team. While it had a good story to it and good intentions as well as morals that it tries to teach, the story seemed unreal. It seemed like they tried to make the man it was about larger than life and possibly better than he really was. I'm not sure because I didn't know him, but no one is that perfect.

I am soooooooo underwhelmed!! The author did a poor job of carrying the hard hat theme throughout the chapters. The prose isn't very elegant. I thought it was going to be some elitist dribble about a golden child catholic Anglo-American who plays a culturally appropriated sport at an ivy league school. The author didn't really dispell any of my preconceived notions. This could have really pulled at my heart strings. It could have painted a vivid humanizing story about how a lacrosse athlete inspires his teammate in the wake of his untimely death. It could have rallied my work ethic and motivated me to become passionate about my work ethic. It did not.

Read for team building. I think it is good to get conversation going in a larger group of teammates. Succinct so can have a group read it easily. Would have liked it more if it was someone from the team writing. Don't get me wrong, George sounds like he was pretty amazing and I truly take nothing away from that, but this really made him look like a saint. Anyways it is very quotable and nothing new but would provide an easy framework and fun theme for leadership and team building activities.

While the sub-title is 21 ways to be a great teammate, it should just say 21 ways to be a great person. While this book was originally written for use on the athletic field, it easily translates to the workplace, community groups, or just life in general. It's super short, so there's no reason not to give it a read.
