Wow loved this story as much as the first 3 in the series, brilliant read with plenty of detail. The characters were all built up well couldn't put the book down (I feel asleep reading several times and had to spend time finding my page again) all in all I would recommend this book as a stand alone but really this whole series is a must read, absolutely magical :)

It's fun reading this spinoff from the Study series. Once again, great worldbuilding and characters. The details about glassblowing are also fascinating and I will never look at glass the same way again. I didn't find the romance in this series to be quite as satisfying as those in other books by the same author, however.

Snyder writes strong flawed women as her leads in the Study series and the Glass series. The two are interconnected.
Set after Fire Study, Opal Cowan, the Glass Magician has been training at the Citadel and learning, or trying to, about magic.

When Stormdancers are dying because of their orbs it's up to Opal to find out why. From here, things get wild.

There's always tiny subplots moving beneath the surface of these novels. It's like layers with some obvious and some less obvious.

Opal is constantly doubting herself and her ability and it gets grating. She grows but keeps missing things. Opal is a brilliant character even when you want to slap sense into her.
While not as punchy as the Study series it is still a great read.

I'm keen to find out more about the different type of magicians and what it means once Opal encases magic used against her in an orb.

I really don’t understand how poison Study was so good but every other thing by this author is so meh. The love story is boring, the plot is just mini quests like a RPG or a legend of Zelda game and somehow it still manages to be convoluted. Yalena who had some fire and made poison study worth reading was reduced to a wise two dimensional friend character in this book. Opal had no personality and the book was so boring. I’ve read far too many books by this author when I’ve only enjoyed one.

I really liked this. Maria Snyder is definitely one of my favorite authors. I can't wait to continue on with the series.
