The Doctor, Ryan, Yaz, and Graham find themselves in fix when the gang realizes Ryan left his phone behind at their last adventure. They head back for it but arrive 600 years later than they left. Lo and behold, the world they saved just ten minutes ago has totally gone to shit in the 600 years they were gone. Annnd, that's Doctor Who, folks. The idea of unintended consequences has been played with in Doctor Who before, notably in the "The Ark" and "Face of Evil." Dawson does pretty well with the set-up, (Although, what happened to Ryan's phone? Did I miss that bit?) using it to comment on real world misogyny and fanaticism. Series 11 standout Graham is, unsurprisingly, the MVP again. It's mostly a standard Doctor Who runaround, but its a well-crafted one.

Well written. It was just a hard read for me because of the parallels in issues of sexism, racism and xenophobia we have today.

This was a perfect Doctor Who story!

Juno really managed to capture the 13th Doctor's era throughout this story, something even the show struggled to get right a lot of the time and it really paid off.

The companions are perfectly characterised to their television counterparts so there's no jarring moments during the story where you might think they'd have acted or responded differently.

The Doctor is also well characterised, their 'isms' are portrayed well and their attitude to the situations are too. I felt as though we didn't get to see as much characterisation of The Doctor, but that's less of a complaint and more of an observation, I'm fine with a story exploring the companions and the people around them. I feel as though that could also be due to the fact the 13th Doctor on screen can vary between episodes, but the code of The Doctor is there.

The story was a real interesting one and a joy to ride as it's so rare we get to see the world's after The Doctor has visited; and even though I took a few breaks between reading I was never lost, it flowed and ended well.

This was my first Juno Dawson book and I hope she writes a lot more for Doctor Who, her exploration of the themes addresses towards the end of the story were handled really well and achieved what a lot of episodes during the 13th Doctor's run either failed to hit or missed the nuances.

My one criticism is to do with an arena scene which seems to be a common occurrence in the Doctor Who books I've read, I'm not sure if it's just a characterisation I don't personally see but it's one that never quite feels right to me. That said it didn't hamper my enjoyment of the book or the story so can't reduce the score for such a minor nitpick.

Overall, if you're looking for an interesting Doctor Who story with 13 and all of their companions that explores some interesting themes, this could be a good read for you!

This is a Doctor Who store I'd live to see on the screen; the effects of the Doctor's interferance, and her legacy on planets she visits.
It's also quite pleasant to see the show's fairly small budget representet on page, being somewhat consistent in different mediums.

Es como ver un episodio de Doctor Who, tal cual. Entretenido, con mensaje y a la vez ligero, me ha gustado.
