I just loved it. Juno Dawson captures 13 really well, and explores so pretty heated issues in this one. It lost a star for the portions of narrative that were unevenly paced.

Still this is definitely one of my favorite Doctor Who novels.

Author Juno Dawson perfectly captures the voices of the 13th doctor and her 3 very different companions, which is no small feat considering they've only had 10 TV episodes together so far. I particularly enjoyed a small moment where, as they hug, Yaz ruminates on all the different things The Doctor smells like. Another small moment brings out The Doctor's strong opinion on olives, which made me laugh out loud. Can't wait for another adventure with the 13th and fam!

"Doctor Who?"

The Doctor and her fam help a planet sign a peace treaty but end up back there 600 years later only to find it's in ruins. Cue the Doctor trying to fix what went wrong.

This was a very entertaining book and it felt like a little bit of a middle finger to society and religion which was quite fun.

It's really rather good - the story starts at the end of an adventure, following which the Doctor and friends return to the same planet centuries later, to discover that their first visit has become the founding myth of the dominant oppressive religious cult, with Graham remembered as the Doctor, the Doctor herself largely forgotten, and their own past used to justify slavery. It is very well done and packs a lot of action and thought into 227 pages. Recommended.

Subtle as a brick to the back of the head, this is still a fun, easy read. Dawson really succeeds at getting the voices of the characters right - I could hear them saying what she wrote. As well, the pacing's pretty good, as the story bounces quickly along, keeping enough interest so that I was able to read it in a single sitting, and every one of the show's main characters get their own plotline so that's nicely well-balanced.

That said, though the problem of racism this story explores is particularly well-suited to this iteration of Doctor Who, it relies on that old heavy-handed chestnut of history or scripture misinterpreted to build an unjust society, which realistic as it may be I feel I've read approximately three thousand times before. Also, and I know this is picky, but so much of the imagery of coming together here is in the cross-species relationships, as the canine Loba interbreed with the human colonists of their world, and I know this is a metaphor for inter-racial relationships, and still my biologist self can't stop thinking "but it doesn't work like that!" Nitpicks aside though, this is, as I said, still a fun read. I haven't read Dawson before but I hope she's writing more books for this franchise because I'd happily read them.
