"Olivia Lowell always believed her father's claim that her mother died in childbirth, until the shocking day a lawyer informs her that her mother has just passed away, leaving her a fortune. The money comes with a caveat - and a confession. In her will, Olivia's mother reveals that she and two college friends committed a crime long ago, and now she wants Olivia to track down her accomplices and convince them to come clean.

Feeling betrayed by her father, and unsure that she even wants her mother's tainted money, Olivia must decide if she can handle the secrets of the past. Fulfilling her mother's request won't be easy, nor will mending her relationship with her father. But with the help and affections of a handsome young lawyer, and the sweet companionship of her beloved Yorkies, Olivia will come to understand who her mother really was, and who she, herself, was meant to be…" (From Amazon)

I picked this up at the library and should have guessed from the cover it was pure romance - sigh. I was forced to read it as I had driven my mom to an appointment.

While the plot was interesting and I listened to the whole book, it was pretty predictable and had a lot of sterotypical characters. A kind, wise dad, handsome, smart lawyer, evil lawyer, and beautiful, intelligent woman. Actually the main character spent way too much time crying and being completely devastated.

The dogs were a cute addition but I even got a little tired of them too. All in all, I wish the book had been about half the length.

It was OK-- like a Lifetime movie. Some of the scenarios were a little bit hard to believe, and the ending wrapped up with everyone happy and a bit too good to be true, but an easy way to spend an afternoon.

Horribly written! I couldn't even finish it! The idea is good... Even the sub-plot with the dogs had potential... But the writing was awful!

Horrible book. I couldn't even finish it. It took me a month and a half just to get halfway through it and I ended up getting bored with it. I usually like Fern Michaels, but she really dropped the ball this time.

Horrid, absolutely painful writing. I picked this up as a light summer beach read and spent my afternoons being disgusted with everything about it. The characters are only half fleshed-out - the author tells us about them rather than letting the characters show themselves, and the storyline feels contrived most of the time. The dogs are a self-indulgence on the part of an animal-loving author, and they really get on my nerves. Who honestly lets their dogs yap and pee all over their house and never reprimands them? Spare yourself. Stay away.

Sigh... it rained while I was at the beach and this was one of the books at the beachhouse... and it had cute little puppies on it, but that was pretty much all it had going for it.

Full disclosure: I bought this audiobook in the clearance section of a Scholastic warehouse sale, so I got my 85 cents worth out of it. The story was cute enough, but nothing memorable. The love story plot follows any typical romance novel format. My biggest complaint is that while most of the book is the limited point of view from Olivia (the main character), the author sporadically decides to follow other characters for parts of a chapter. This would be fine, but those bits do not add anything to the story, as the characters recap everything they said and did near verbatim once they reunite with Olivia and the story is back to her point of view.
