I enjoyed this audio version of the first half of the story. The reading is fast and there are parts I had to rewind. However, the text is very wordy and this brought the pace up.

I'm over 20% in, and I don't care what's happening or like any of the characters. Life's just too short.

I know it wasn't exactly supposed to be funny, but I kept laughing. This is just a Really Dramatic Story.

So to summarize, Will Treaty (lawful hero) and his best friend Squanto (actual hero) the queen, Buttercup, and her faithful servant Gimli, along with Sir Percival, Robin Hood and Gandalf go on a wild goose chase adventure thingy to rescue King Arthur from The Necromancer because Prince John (with the help of Sir Hiss) is taking over Camelot.

Some random things that ran through my head as I was listening...

"OFCOURSE prince John has a portable throne! I wonder if it folds up like a camp chair."

"pray thee tell me, fair knight, how dost thou simply don thy armor 'in a flash'? I was under the impression that that stuff was sorta heavy?"

"umm so I don't know if you've ever tried ducking and dodging silently down a forest trail on horseback, but just take it from me it doesn't work that way. Horses are just loud. And they don't duck easily."

"So I'm pretty sure the queen is just blonde and useless. That weapon is just for decoration she can't actually use it."

"I'm pretty sure you know very little about horses. This is a WARHORSE. those were usually what we call DRAFT HORSES today. They do not jump as 'graceful as a deer'. They are graceful, yes, but graceful like an elephant is graceful, not like a deer."

"Ooooh that was a good evil laugh"

Oh another thing, they do an awful lot of diving into bushes. I tend to exaggerate everything mentally, and knights diving into bushes continually is great for that.

Also they say everything at top volume. Dangerous dungeon rescue mission? There are "shouts of joy" when the rescuers appear. [*facepalm]

Ok so I don't even know what I'm doing with this review anymore. I think I've had too many shots of espresso. Or maybe I just need more espresso. I don't know. Anywaysosorrybye.

I couldn't put this book down, I enjoyed it that much and I am looking forward to the next one in the series. I liked the spiritual references and I found them to right on.

Plodding, bland YA fantasy; we meet Frodo, Gandalf, then go to Bree, meet Strider (“the Hawk”) etc etc. If you’re looking for paint-by-numbers fantasy fix, this isn’t as good as Eragon (for instance). However, the audio book version (by Graphic Audio) livens it up a great deal: A host of character actors, sound effects, and music reminiscent of the Diablo computer game, transforms the tedium into something entertaining.

i owned the old edition and really like the story-telling of the author. Its only after i joined here that i came to know that this was a trilogy. The book is a good read.

DNF on page 134.

I'm just not in the mood for it. It isn't as good as the rest of Lawhead's books, but I might come back to this one later.
