*And yes…there goes the ACOTAR love triangle dilemma -Archeron becomes a villain, Stolas is now the hero. SIGH. I mean, I was loving Stolas anyway but it was just so similar. Did it really have to happen? Archeron was there for her in the beginning and he has to go out like this? Evil, broken hearted, and disfigured – damn.

AhhhAHHHAhhHHHHHHHHHH

Okay I don't know but this series just is SO ENJOYABLE.

and I"M SO DAMN GLAD STOLAS IS THE MAIN ROMANTIC INTEREST. There has ALWAYS been more chemistry than archeron (although I did get the lust side there haha) and I'm glad this book explored the notion of love versus lust, and the guilt that Haven felt for not liking Archeron despite his sacrifice. Like, just coz someone gives up the world for you, doesn't mean you have to give up the world for them if you don't feel the same way.

I love a good magical challenge, although it did feel a bit Goblet of Fire-y, and boy did the lore grow deeper from this book.

Audiobook was great, series is great. Both frustrated that it's not a trilogy, and grateful that there will be more.

AHHHHH. This series just hits the right spots and keeps things interesting.

First and foremost, I love this series and by far King Maker is my favorite book in the series.

The best part is the amount of Stolas in this book, I have been a big fan of his since the first book and was so glad to see how much more we got of him. With Archeron I was really starting to like him more and more as the series went on, even felt bad for him at a certain part, but then things changed. I did enjoy seeing his development into the character he ends up being at the end of the story. Haven and Bell's relationship was definitely put to the test and I think it definitely was needed, we needed to see Bell realize that he isn't weak. Haven needed to realize that she doesn't need to save Bell from everything and everyone, heck Archeron and Surai both told her throughout the series that she needs to have more faith in him and let him figure out things on his own.

The plot itself was really great, there aren't a lot of books out there where I am so fully immersed into the story that I don't even bother trying to figure out whats going to happen in the future. I am a big fan of trying to figure out the plot twist right away but with this book/series I have just been to invested in the story to care. I do wish we could have gotten some more development of certain relationships but I am sure we will see them develop in the next book.

I do want to talk about the amount of reviews I see mentioning that this is so similar to SJM books. I love Throne of Glass and ACOTAR, they are top favorite series of mine and having just finished a reread of both series I think it is unfair to tell readers how similar this book/series is to those series. It really isn't that similar and honestly you could say that about really any YA Fantasy series that's out there.

4.5 ✨ This one was amazing!!!
Thank god that Haven realized how bad was Archeron, I couldn't stand him anymore. On the other hand, Stolas was everything, I loved this man so much

TW: suicide (off book) prior to book 1, but discussed in full here

“Never again, Beastie. Do you understand? If you choose to hate yourself, to risk death than accepting your gifts — then perhaps you do not deserve them.”

Yes. FINALLY! I’m so glad I stuck with this because this did not disappoint.

There were still some repeats with the things I did not like in the previous books - the writing was still a little weak (take a shot every time the word “primordial” is used and you will be schmammered), but it vastly improved from the first two; some of the character relationships I still really struggled with (some aspects just felt really out of place).

That. Being. Said.

Team Edward. Team Peeta. TEAM STOLAS. He is perfect and I will die on that hill.

This book gave me all kinds of Tri-Wizard Tournament / Hunger Games vibes. I was worried this would be more a filler to keep the story going, but honestly this was the best so far in the series. The character developments really improved (looking at you Bell) and I really enjoyed seeing the “new” evils play out along with the introduction to new characters (Xandrian!!). The twists and turns, albeit sometimes predictable, still had me entertained and turning the pages. And also Stolas.

I’m very much looking forward to the next one

Please note - the parallels to SJM is not lost on me at all. The similarities between the two are astounding, and maybe that’s why this book was more enjoyable, as was the same to TOG by SJM when “shit” started to go down.

**update / changed from 4.5 to 4, I got over my initial excitement of it actually being good and thought about it some more.**
