never forget …
i will forget 99% of this

You would think this would be the most boring imaginable book -- 600 pages of excruciating detail about what happened on 9/11, written by government bureaucrats. But in fact, this is one of the best -- not just most important -- books I've read in my lifetime. Whoever commissioned the report clearly must have hired journalists to actually write the book, because by no means is it dull. There are no holds barred. The authors don't hesitate to call out when agencies failed in their duties, and when they went beyond what could reasonably have been expected of them. I know I'm a policy wonk and like this sort of thing more than most people. And I also think people should read books like this so that they understand the successes and failures of our democracy. But I also think that this is a book that people would want to read, not just feel obligated to read, if only they realized how good it was.

Had to read the whole stupid thing for school.

i watched my college president lead the commission and my school as well as hold one of the hearings at drew (which i attended). should be required reading for anyone who remembers the chaos of that day.
