I think I enjoyed all of the stories individually, but the ones I read together in one sitting kind of blur and bleed into each other

Gripping. A true page-turner about people on the edge of sadness, perversion, exploitation, and power. Really, really good.

I kind of feel like I just got punched in the face, rather than like I just read a book.

The first two stories were so grim and depressing, it took me 10 days to read the first one, and I couldn't even finish the second one. Well-written, I suppose, but not my cup of tea.

2.5

Visceral and sometimes twisted, but more often probingly truthful and aesthetically satisfying. Mary Gaitskill can sure write a short story.

Perfect little windows into weird and wonderful lives.

Gritty, dirty, sexy, and wonderful. Gaitskill gets that love isn't always pretty.
