A brilliant collection of short stories. Favorites: "A Romantic Weekend," "Something Nice," and "Trying to Be." This is the closest portrayal of my experience of young womanhood that I've read to date. Very well-crafted and a good source for models of character-building, description, and structure.

I didn't realize until most of the way through the book that one of the short stories was the inspiration for the movie Secretary which I loved. It made me think about the stories in the book in a new light but still I have some mixed feelings about the stories.
