It's so fun when a book completely does live up to the accolades it has received, and then you get to experience it without let down! I tore through this story, not realising how invested I was until suddenly my train pulled into the station and I actively panicked, desperate to keep reading. It is such a unique world and method of delivery, and yet you find yourself totally immersed in it; feeling all the emotions of this strange and unusual titular character. I can imagine this actually wouldn't be for everyone, and some might be deceived by the elusive blurb and rave reviews, but for the rest of us, this is an excellent time.

"The beauty of the House is immeasurable; its Kindness infinite".

I loved the premise of the House and Clarke's descriptions of the world were spell-binding. I also really loved the ending, with our narrator coming to terms with his two identities - existing (in my opinion) as something greater than the sum of his two parts. Unfortunately, the journey from premise to denouement felt a little too "true crime", especially juxtaposed against the otherwise fantastical setting. Still, this is probably the most creative book I've read this year.
