Beautiful story about learning to love yourself as you are. I read it in one sitting and in less than an hour.... And shed many tears.

Thank you NetGalley and First Publish Books for a Spanish eARC.

I was lucky enough to read this novel in Spanish and it was such a great read! I loved the message of this novel. It’s an amazing story about self-acceptance and learning to love yourself. It challenges anti-Blackness as something that has been passed down through generations and we have to unlearn and decolonize that mindset. It challenges these issues in a way that young readers would comprehend. I feel so many will relate to this story. The illustrations are gorgeous and perfectly placed.

I kept tearing up from all the touching moments in this book. It’s so cool to think about young folks reading this and beginning to unlearn internalized racism and acknowledge generational trauma. Also the characters are so endearing, and I loved the art!

This one radiated such a warmth. I could feel how healing and special this would be for so many readers who see themselves in Marlene and her Mami.

Loved how this book addressed assimilation, generational beliefs and anti-Blackness.
