This series has been a little different than other middle grade I have read. I enjoy the historical fiction aspect of the series with it taking place at Biltmore mansion, the home of the Vanderbilts. It has a lot of the local lore with catamounts and stories from Appalachia which I found interesting. The storyline has just enough magic, mystery and intrigue to keep it interesting. I listened to the audiobook and the performer was great at creating different voices for the characters.

Es un gran libro y una continuación digna, el primer libro lo sentí un poco lento, pero este está llanero de acción y suspenso desde las primeras páginas.
En esta segunda entrega se nos introducen a más personajes que serán importantes en esta entrega como en las posteriores, ademas de trabajar en las relaciones de los personajes ya existentes.
Los giros de la trama fueron algunos predecibles y otros no tanto razón por la que no alcanza las 5 estrellas de forma limpia.
Lo que más impresiona es como estos eventos están tan relacionados con el primer libro, a pesar de ser vilanos nuevos, todo lo que sucedió en el libro anterior es retomado más allá de los personajes y crea un background muy sólido, puesto que en libros de aventuras es común que la siguiente parte sea un reseteo en las situaciones y solo se considere El Progreso obtenido en los personajes, y en este libro no; aquí si existe una secuencia muy fuerte e interconectada.
Debo decir que la narración del autor es muy bonita y tiene imágenes impecables acerca del entorno. También destacó el mensaje que nos desea transmitir el autor, el cual está bien logrado, un poco diseminado con los eventos en ciertos sentido pero siempre conectado en las acciones de los personajes principales.
Este libro es sin duda mejor que el anterior y el final te deje en un suspenso por saber qué es lo que sigue, algo inteligente aunque debatible, siendo un final abierto que da pie al segundo libre y crea una transición al tercer libro.

This book starts off at a running pace and rarely slows down. There are a few slower moments, but it didn't feel like many. They were placed well. Every time I was about to complain about pacing to whoever was near me, there would be a nice slow moment for me to catch my breath (even if the characters didn't get a chance).
The Biltmore and the surrounding forest is such a fitting and beautiful place for a story like this. I am not sure how much of the beauty I am getting from the setting is having visited or from the authors descriptions. So I will err on the author did a fantastic job of transporting me both back to the location and to a different time. (Although you do feel like you stepped out of a time machine when you visit the property.)
The introduction of new characters were a welcome treat. I am glad for the blurb at the end of the book about the real life men & women who crafted Biltmore. The house in the book feels populated by those real folks and the fictional ones feel just as real.
I am excited for the next book. I want to know more of the people and places.

A welcome return to the world of Serafina, who remains a relatable and endearing heroine. Here we see her struggle to reconcile her dual identities and discover where she fits in the world, while worrying over changing friendships and, y’know, trying to prevent a powerful evil from destroying everyone and everything she loves. The plot in this one is a bit darker, I’d say, but rightly so. Definitely worth picking up if you even mildly enjoyed the first!

Wow! What a wonderful book. I received a free ARC of this book from Net Galley and absolutely loved it! It kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing until the end. What a great story with action, adventure, friendship, and self-discovery that sends the message that you can be anything you want.
