Boy does Sierra Simone know how to start a book. Very few authors have the ⚽️ s to have the meet cute be a literal 0rgy (I know I know it’s not exactly meet cute, but close enough) and pull it off so elegantly at that. That’s the Simone Spell for you, weaving stories whimsical and intellectual and h0rny all at once. And this is Bonkers romance after all. Originally part of the Peculiar tastes series, this was exactly to my taste; sapphic, atmospheric, decadent, just dark enough, a delicious slice of indulgence.

Janneth, like a lot of us, is sick and tired of the real world and so it is fate herself when she’s abducted to faerie to become the Queen’s pet. The book is short, but the world building is perfectly alluring and deliciously depraved and the little taste of faerie you get leaves you wanting more. The steam of course is piping hot and spicyyy, and in the way of Ms Simone, unfettered and limitless.

The little shoutouts to famous fantasy books is classic Simone, and the little Sierraverse Easter egg in the epilogue had me screaming crying throwing up. Honestly, I could read more about this version of faerie, specifically about Morven.
