I couldn't get beyond chapter 2 when the book reads like the author had a minimum word count they had to reach. You know when you're bs-ing your way through a paper you don't really want to write so you find seven different ways to word one sentence and then string them together as if it's intelligent?
That's this book.
That's this book.

Compared to some books of a similar nature such as; Mr Lemoncello series or Polly Schulmans books as examples, this just didn't stand up as as engaging. A shame really. Too many author asides and repetitive scenarios with cartoon inexplicable baddies.
"The pig in a teeny hat" was admittedly fantastic and should have had a greater role!
Granted I am not the audience this book was intended for, so maybe I am missing something by being an old (not older) reader?

I love when narrators break the fourth wall if it is done well, and you’ll learn really early on that it is done well in The Explorers. This hilarious narrator takes us on this adventure with Sebastian, a character that very logical people will relate to, and Evie, a character that people who are bored unless they are on an adventure, will relate to that is filled with more action, adventure, and danger than I thought would come out of this little book. But don’t worry, the narrator keeps it light with funny chapter titles and footnotes. All of this combines to make a book that I loved quite a bit because it is just the perfect balance of adventure, humor, friendship, and mystery. Although, I must warn you about the cliffhanger–WHOA! I’m still recovering.

It's an adventurously, hilarious middle grade tale, and a wonderful start to a new series.
THE EXPLORERS: THE DOOR IS THE ALLEY is the tale of two unlikely friends, a mysterious secret society, a secret past, & a tiny pig in a hat.
•
It's full of danger, thugs, missing person, famous explorers, a lost map, and a quest to save family.
•
Highly recommended for anyone who loves adventure, humor, or Indiana Jones-esq tales!
•
But fair warning--if you pick it up, you'll be yearning for the rest of the series early on in the story!

Fast, fun. Would actually love a story about the same people targeted at older readers.

This is the kind of book that doesn't take much brain power to understand, but it's still really fun to read. I saw it compared to the [b:The Mysterious Benedict Society|40605329|The Mysterious Benedict Society (The Mysterious Benedict Society, #1)|Trenton Lee Stewart|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1529611235l/40605329._SY75_.jpg|80497]; I guess it's kind of similar, but...not really. I would say the Mysterious Benedict Society is aimed at more of older readers, 5th graders, maybe, while this is for slightly younger kids. The Door in the Alley is quirky and fast-paced and a fun story. There are a few sequels, all of which I have read and I loved them all!

This was adorable. I loved both main characters and also the story. It was very cute but really taught a very good moral about life and not being "right" all the time. It was really funny and actually can't wait to read the sequel next year! very cute
