I need to read this entire series before giving my full thoughts. So complex. I’m reading in publishing order and not series chronological order, so I started with Patternmaster
challenging hopeful reflective tense fast-paced

Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I read these in chronological order and enjoyed myself greatly! I think that reading in publication order would’ve spoiled book 2 for me, and kind of book 3, and would have left me perplexed about the existence of wild seed. To each their own

Not as good as Wild Seed. That really trumps every other book in this series. Still decent though.

The final book in the Patternist series, taking us to the future world created by the actions of Mary, Doro, and Anyanwu so long ago.

This might be my favourite of the whole series. Possibly a close second to Mind of my Mind. It’s must more in the realm of sci-fi, and I really enjoy the political intrigue elements - the themes of power and control that have been brewing throughout the series really come to fruition here.

All the bleakness and themes of power and control of the Xenogenesis trilogy, but lacking in the complexity that made Xenogenesis so compelling. i'm curious if i'd have felt differently if i'd chosen to read the series in chronological rather than publishing order; on its own, without the context of the later prequels, I found this to be a frustratingly sparse read. (then again, I did kind of start at the end of the story, and I've heard it is the weakest in the series, so I'm looking forward to reading the remaining books and seeing how the world of Pattermaster came to be.)
