Can't believe I finished this series before my libby loan expired, but here we are! I'm really huming and having of this rating. It's not as good as the other books but there are moments that i really liked. So it's borderline 2.5-3.
Definietly didn't like this one as much. The characters are shockingly bland and it just feels kind of directionless. I still don't really see stand the point of the conflict between Patternist v. Claysark. It's not even fully explained! I think we get only one line about competition but... that's really not enough for me to see these two groups as competing for world dominance. I just think I'm missing a book or two to explain how we went from book 1 to where it ends in book 4.

Back to the captivating magic of the first two books.
Always love Octavia E Butler. I love how expansive this series was and all of the different perspectives that were introduced. I’ve never read a series that so thoroughly abandoned past povs which I think was a fun challenge for the reader in terms of holding compassion and forcing you to expand your mindset.

Maybe unsurprisingly, I think Wild Seed is the strongest of the series. But this one definitely had a tension that kept me engaged. Butler doesn’t tend to have amazing, beautiful prose. Instead she creates moral conundrums for her characters that always make me so uncomfortable!
