The ending of this series was kind of a bummer. I wonder if I read it in publication order if it would have made a difference in my overall enjoyment of the series. Butler’s writing is compelling, and my brain just isn’t big enough to catch all of the symbolism and themes that she weaves through her stories. Overall, this was just ok. Compared to Wild Seed and Mind of My Mind, this felt very approachable and digestible, but reading it in the order I did, I feel like it was doomed to be mid.

I liked this book the least of the series. Wild Seed was my favorite

In this conclusion of the Patternist series, Butler once again weaves a compelling tale in a speculative future. I felt that this book was a bit faster-paced than the others in the series, yet there was still plenty of time to sit with the characters in their struggles, failures, and triumphs. I read this as part of Dr. Briana Whiteside's Octavia Bulter Mixtape class on Substack and TikTok.

my favorite world of Octavia butler’s that I’ve read but probably my least favorite characters. The world building is awesome though and she’s so concise and efficient. Game of throney plot

Bestemt ikke nogen dårlig bog, men ikke helt på niveau med "Wild Seed" som kronologisk set er første bog i serien, men vist er skrevet senere.
