Really great art but the story was told in too disjointed a way to follow.

this graphic novel was not among the best i've read. although it could be they were trying to convey the mood of disjointed snippets because maybe that is the chaos of Basquiat's life. i know only a bit about him, im not an expert, so this book could have struck the right tone. its just that for people who dont know lots about him, the book is not very clearly telling a story. he is swept from one event happening to him to another, we don't really see how he reflects, is affected, is inspired, or otherwise thinks about most of what happens to him. so it lacks depth and knowledge about the artist himself, its more like a chain of events that happen to him. and its got nudity, swearing, drugs, and other things that make this challenging to give it to a younger kid, for example.
