Saving Mr. Terupt

This is still what I always read when I'm in a slump or need comforting. The actual content of the book is pretty basic and nothing very special, but man, is it good.

Still love this series, but this book dragged things out more than was necessary.

So much better than Mr. Terupt Falls Again!

The kids are back in this third installment of the Mr. Terupt series. They have had to leave Mr. Terupt behind as they move on to middle school. However, they are trying to keep their promise to stay together. Lexie and Peter run for class president. Peter and Jeffrey join the wrestling team. Anna and Danielle are waiting to become sisters and join the yearbook committee. Luke is taking advanced classes and isolated from his friends. Lexie and Jessica are into drama. They experience all the usual middle school problems like zits and bullies and crushes. But the drama at home is more dramatic for some of them. Danielle develops diabetes and Jessica's mom has breast cancer. They all come together when they realise the school is having a budget shortfall and cuts are going to be made, specifically the newest teachers are coming under the axe. They don't want to lose Mr. Terupt and start campaigning to keep him.

I always enjoy the Mr. Terupt books, but I don't think any of them approach the magic of the first book. I wasn't as fond of the alternating narrators in this book as I thought it led to more tell and less show in the story. I also thought the drama was a bit over the top. However, I think Buyea has a winning formal in these books that kids really enjoy.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley.

"'Sometimes you have to find the happiness in situations. It all depends on how you look at things.'"

We return to the original gang, finding them navigating new territory as they go off to middle school for the first time. I enjoyed seeing these seven kids navigate life beyond the walls of Mr. Terupt's classroom. It was weird not having Mr. Terupt around all of the time, but the gang figured out ways to go back to visit Mr. Terupt when they desperately needed it.

I liked that this book dealt with the changing relationships between the seven middle schoolers as they start to mature and develop feelings for each other. A classic Spin the Bottle game ends up severing the close relationship these seven had experienced for the past two years. I appreciated that although the kids were growing older and facing new feelings and emotions that nothing got overly graphic. There are hurt feelings caused by the unknown of what happened behind closed doors, but there is nothing overly graphic in this book, which makes it a good pick for upper elementary and middle school readers.

I feel like these books lose a little bit of their magic every year the students get older. I know there's a fourth and final book coming out ([b:Goodbye, Mr. Terupt|51457164|Goodbye, Mr. Terupt (Mr. Terupt, #4)|Rob Buyea|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1582073718l/51457164._SY75_.jpg|76121267]) and I'm just not sure what to expect. Sometimes, as much as readers want a sequel, it's better to leave the characters alone. I'm not sure the transition to 7th grade was needed, but it was fun to see these characters continue to grow and mature.

This one fell a little short of the first installment for me which is disappointing because I had been looking forward to it! I'm still hoping for a 4th book--there are some loose ends to take care of and I want to see what Buyea does with them.

I love the friendship these kids have with each other <3

Dull. Stereotypical.

Another great installment in the lives of Mr. Terupt and his students. Great MS story...especially for 7th graders.

The title alone had me excited for this third book in the Mr. Terupt series. The gang is back and in junior high with a host of ups and downs. Health issues, pregnancy, possibly losing a teacher due to budget cuts. Will the gang be able to manage to stay together and fight for their beloved teacher or will they drift apart due to the pressures of junior high?
