Another interesting look into the Greek history. Lovely to see some women at the center of the story and some irony.
fast-paced
This is a beautiful text in itself. Ted Hughes writes in a dramatic and powerful language that fits the play and its tone well. It’s a pity that he lost a lot of the original text in his process of translation.
It is clear that Hughes’ intent was not to translate the Greek to English, but to translate the ancient emotions to modern ones. In this, I think, he succeeded.
This is an excellent book, but not close enough to Aeschylus’ text to be an excellent translation.
