i don't feel strongly about this book. i have my opinions on cardan as a character, but they keep oscillating between 'i hate him' and 'he's kind of ok?' so i don't want to make a solid statement about him right now. the story itself wasn't all that interesting, and it could've been shortened. we do get cardan in the mortal world, and holly black does write some lines that i giggle at, so it's still a win for me.

p.s. the illustrations are pretty good!

Una interesante recopilación de algunos momentos anteriores, posteriores y durante la saga desde el punto de vista de Cardan. He echado en falta algunos momentos más pero aún así me ha gustado mucho y las ilustraciones son preciosas

This collection of short stories is one of my favorite side/companion books. It helps give a better idea of what shaped Cardan and I enjoyed seeing the emotions he felt during moments from The Cruel Prince that we only saw Jude’s POV of previously. Cardan’s feelings towards Jude are overshadowed by the events of his past and how it shaped his prejudice towards humans and this novella is amazing at showing that trauma. I enjoyed seeing the connection between Aslog’s stories and Cardan’s character.

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T READ ALL THREE BOOKS IN THE CRUEL PRINCE TRILOGY
1) I enjoyed these stories so much. It was great to see Cardan’s life in his perspective. Some of it we already knew, but only through Jude’s lense. I liked that it included Jude, his falling for her & a few moments of them together as High King and Queen.
2) I really hate Nicasia. A large amount. I will HATE if Holly Black writes the next book in her perspective. I don’t want to hear her side of anything. I also dislike the fact that Jude just doesn’t seem to mind her anymore even after how terrible she continues to be to her. She helped Jude save Cardan, only because she still loves him.
3) I wish there were a few more stories included. It was great to get insight on how Cardan became a villain. I think I may just love him & want more because of that. However, I do wish there was a story of him with the Court of Shadows or trying to rule the kingdom.
