Untitled (Blue, Green, and Brown): oil on canvas: Mark Rothko: 1952
"Maybe we pray on our knees because god / only listens when we're this close / to the devil."
"How my greatest accolade was to walk / across the Brooklyn Bridge / & not think of flight."
"You will always remember what you were doing when it hurts the most."
Above is my favorite poem in this collection along with the lines I won't soon forget. I think I'm not so much interested in rating this as I am in discussing Ocean Vuong as a modern classic. He will surely live on past me and everyone else I know. He will be read for context and subtext, and I feel so lucky to live in the same era as him.

Me encantó.

Beautiful, emotive wording and imagery. This deserves study; I want to take my favorite pieces apart and make sure I'm gleaning everything from it that I can.

I prefer this to Time is a Mother, but Vuong is definitely not my bag. Beautiful but too esoteric, almost forced for me.
