Fundamentally follows a heartbroken, ex-muslim british woman whose savior complex takes her to Iraq to design a de-radicalisation program for ISIS brides. I was so immersed in Nadia's world that its hard to believe that this is all fiction albeit undoubtedly inspired by the authors own experiences on a similar UN mission. The writing is sarcastic, witty and full of dry British humor. The world building is fantastic and the characters were all so well rounded. It's such a unique concept for a novel as well. I can definitely see how the wholly negative perspective on religion can rub some folks the wrong way. And some vocabulary was definitely a little cringy. But on the whole I found myself so moved by the storytelling. I'll be thinking about these characters for a long time.
