Very educational and interesting. It was an honest tale that I'm sure kids and their families can understand and relate to without losing hope in this ongoing fight for equal rights for undocumented immigrants.

Compelling and accessible to upper elementary and middle school readers. Doesn't lend itself to library circulation because of its unusual accordion format, but would make a strong resource in classrooms focused on issues of social justice and immigration.

A quick, but important read

Told through unique illustrations laid out almost like a scroll, the plight of undocumented workers is explained in an accessible way for middle grades.

Very good to share the story and the resources at the end are great. I'm glad that there's a short piece to share with folks to just introduce them to the issue. I wasn't a fan of the illustrations and wish this was a bit longer so that there were more space for some more details.

I think my only criticism is that at 30 pages it is too short.

I love Tonatiuh’s art so I was interested in starting this one. I have a hard time reconciling the format with the intended age group. It doesn’t seem to be for kids, but the format is very juvenile to be for adults. It’s definitely different.

This is a book that needs to be shared again and again with people of all ages. It tells the story of one undocumented worker in the United States and introduces readers to others. The author's note at the end provides additional information.
I worry about the accordion fold format of the book. Published in the ancient Mixtec codex that represents this worker, I fear for it's durability in a school library.
