I really wanted to like this because I’m a huge urban fantasy fan and I LOVE all things heist-y but this fell flat. It started off fine, the world described was interesting, the two mains “hate” each other and are incredibly competitive. It was a fun sort of silly with all the ways they kept tripping each other up (a vomit potion here, a knife in the shoulder there) but I felt like instead of growing/evolving story wise, it just petered out. Petty jealousy was introduced around an ex (which btw was from teenage years and they are supposedly late 20s) who joins the “crew”. What adult is upset over an HS fling? The constant we can’t keep our hands off each other even though I totally hate her and then being annoyed at being interrupted grew old fast. Cute the first time, annoying afterwards. This was a YA novel but with curse words and sex scenes in it to make it “Adult”.

did i start and finish another sapphic book in a day again? yes. yes i did and i just…..wow.

this started off SO different than what the rest of the book ended up being and i……loved all of it.

sapphic and steamy and enemies to lovers in a modern day dystopian fantasy novel??? are you kidding???

truly unlike anything i’ve ever read.

onto le next one.

5 STARS! please-please-please if you're even remotely into enemies-who-are-fucking-to-lovers and enjoy fantasy READ THIS!!

I might be a little biased because of the chokehold this series has had me in for the past 4 days, but I can't remember the last time I was this deep into a world a book has to offer. Scarlett and Quinn are definitely not sure if they want to murder each other or have sex for 3 years without stopping.

I'm trying to write a review that explains how I feel about this book. It had exactly what I was looking for: emotion. It was completely authentic and just overall felt real. There's that block I get with books when the words are written but I don't really believe it, but with this book I believed every emotion that was on the paper, and overall that's what's most important to me.

Although the whole series is annoying in the way that "if you communicated sooner, 70% of your problems would be solvable", it still gives that feeling of aweeeeeeeeeeeee and makes you want to read more. I'm very happy that this book has an epilogue that you can download, because it did feel a little unfinished without.

DID NOT FINISH: 23%

Tone didn't seem consistent and plot didn't hook me.
