This reread is really cementing how iconic these books are. We see Katniss and Peeta simultaneously juggling their trauma from the Games with the very public, very orchestrated lives they’re expected to live for the Capitol; we’re introduced to fantastic new characters; Snow’s cruelty continues to horrify; and the propaganda campaign really takes off (although again, Katniss is about five kilometres behind everyone else as it does).
I’ve only docked it half a star because the pacing was somewhat choppy. The first half is fairly slow, followed by non-stop action once they’re in the Games that kept my heart rate at a nice and unhealthy high.
Collins really knows how to write a cliffhanger, which makes me very thankful I can dive straight in to Mockingjay and avoid a torturous wait.

One of my all-time favorite books, Catching Fire is a magnificent follow-up to the Hunger Games. When I read this as a young person, I really only appreciated them for the on-page lessons, but as I've gotten older and have continued reading this series, I am continually in awe of the way in which these books connect to the world around us.
