My 8yo daughter and I continue to enjoy this series. Major Powell's story is remarkable (leadership in the Civil War and adventuring and mapping the Colorado River) if not as historically significant as other entries in the series. Still, an engaging look at a different time in history.

I cannot keep this series on the shelf, and so I just grabbed the only one I had left. My gentlemen readers LOVE these. I 1000000% see why! Hale makes history so fun and accessible! I LOVE how he breaks the 4th wall! This was a fascinating story of both a great expedition and battles of the Civil War I knew very little about.
I would also let the record reflect that much like a middle schooler, I did giggle out loud at the butt/butte jokes.

Nathan Hale takes us on a harrowing ride through the Grand Canyon with John Wesley Powell and his crew as they explore the rapids and falls of the Colorado River back in 1869.
Those who appreciate this series will not be disappointed in the blend of history and humor.

Like most explorers, John Wesley Powell was a bit crazy. Why would anyone put themselves through all that hardship just to find out where a river goes. Can't you wait for someone to invent airplanes?

Nathan Hale brings it to life well. Aimed at young readers, but also fine for an adult who doesn't want a dry boring description that goes on and on for 1000 pages.

Good book. Not so sold on the orange but I liked the flashbacks. Not sure why bill Richmond dropped in besides to add a third personality after the provost got knocked out...though bill knocked him out...so. I did enjoy learning something new and I liked the introduction pages of characters. Also loved the authors watercolors of the Grand Canyon at the end.

this one was a lot of fun! less dark and more silly. I enjoyed the addition of the flashback scenes.
