Magical, heartbreaking, hopeful, and romantic. It is truly a beautiful piece of work in every way.

This is such a warm and charming book to read. I rarely find a romance that doesn't feel cringey but the romance in this book was sweet and I was invested the entire time. I also loved the aunt's character and the sprinkles of meaningful life advice. Would recommend!!

2.5~2.75 stars. i haven't picked up a romance in a while and this one has been highly praised in the online circles. the story is a fun romance with an element of magical realism. i've seen people also shelve this as women's fiction because it tackles a lot of the main character's journey with grief (although i have an objection with that term because it's generally sexist and implies a woman's internal journey is only meant for a female readership, but anyways...)

objectively, the plot is fresh and unique for a romance book, and i can see a lot of people enjoying this and i totally understand why. but i rate books based on enjoyment, and in that aspect, this book didn't do much for me for a few reasons.

a. the insta-love. clementine fell in love with iwan in less than two days. there was like zero banter or any tension to build up the romance. i am not a fan of insta-love, and i need the romance in books to be AGONIZINGLY slow and drawn out. lol. i get that that's not for everyone and so they may have enjoyed the quick development.

b. in that vein, i also didn't really feel any chemistry between both the characters; they were basically the same, wonder-bread white, mildly boring people. give me SOMETHING. banter. jokes. anything.

this book redeems itself with the fun little time-slip element, and if the book focused more on that whole supernatural aspect, it could have been 3 or 4 stars for me. the writing was also very pretty.

however, this did make me want to read more romance with magical realism because, how fun! definitely a super interesting way to make a romance more plot heavy without the whole third-act conflict that usually bogs down the narrative.
