4.5 stars. This isn’t your average cheesy romance - the characters felt genuine and authentic, and I loved their story.

I devoured this in one sitting. I really enjoyed the flawed characters, still always likable even when being awful, and their growth over the course of the book. I also loved that this book grows beyond a typical romantic comedy. There is laugh out loud moments but also moments that bordered on the too melodramatic but always managed to pull itself back and stay relatable. I also enjoyed the location - I now want to run off to the coast of Maine. Perfect high-level beach read for the summer.

I enjoyed this and savored its sweetness. I love her writing. She’s clever…. “Wicked smart”. This was a joy to read.

Pro: a light and easy summer read.
Cons: entirely forgettable. Boring main characters. Dull plot line. Zero chemistry.

This book is what happens when you write a romance without any chemistry. A flop for me, I'm afraid.

Beautiful and heartbreaking. A story of the American dream held tightly against all odds, and the awful realities of a broken immigration system. The characters were beautiful and I found myself rooting for them to the very end. 4 stars.

DNF @ 36%...I enjoyed this book well enough in the beginning, but since about 1/4 in, I find that the story has been dragging a lot, and I'm just not feeling motivated to continue. I like the concept and reading a romance with characters that are (and feel) older than a lot of the romances I've read recently, but the romantic plotline and characters themselves are just feeling very meh

3.5 stars - The ultimate slow burn, a clean romance. Delightful to read, Holmes can craft a sentence and make it as though you are there. The baseball part was interesting but not over powering. The setting was wonderful, in Maine, which really came through at the end.
There's an odd chapter toward the end that followed the hero, it's the only one in the book and seemed out of place. Overall, a short easy read that's enjoyable.

TW: emotional abuse, child abandonment
