For me, the series that accompanies this novella is a 3. I like it, it’s interesting but I probably won’t reread the books again. This novella however was fantastic. I love the twist on the lore from the series. And how everything fell into place for the ending was brilliant. This I might purchase for myself so I can go back and look for hints clues and foreshadowing.

i hate the arron’s. i hate the fact that innocent people were murdered. i hate a coup. </it’s so hard to just sit and read about a coup happening to a good person. a coup that changed the course of history for this series.>

Why did this have more action and drama in it than the entirety of book 1?
I really enjoyed this story of the Oracle queen and it was good as we go to see what another power is like and how it works.
Elsie killed her sisters and has the power of sight. She is slowly being manipulated and gas lighted to be made out to be a bad and reckless queen. Her consort is off flirting with others and bedding a poisoner she becomes jealous and makes scenes.
She doesn't know who to trust or be loyal to anymore. Her foster brother is poisoning her tonic so she is losing her sight.
The romance felt bland and unnecessary tbh the whole painter and that wasn not needed.
Essentially this story is about how the prisoners gained their power as they got everyone to believe the queen was mad and tainted. Thus ever child born with sight is now killed.
Elsie was eventually locked away in a prison for eternity, her friends and loyalists all killed.
I much preferred the pacing and drama in this compared to book one.
