So interesting and confusing, but not in a bad way. A winding and beautifully written story.

I adore this book. It is whimsical, absurd and very entertaining. I feel however that I couldn’t have a full appreciation for this story on my first read-through. I’d like to revisit it at some point after reading Faust, learning more details about Christianity especially around the death of Jesus, and learning more about the history of 1920’s-1930’s Russia. I also read the translation by Pevear and Volokhonsky and heard other translations might be a bit more of a smoother read so I would like to read a different translation as comparison on my next read as well. All that being said, it was a wild story and one I very much enjoyed and expect to enjoy even more next time.
