Absolutely lovely book. I love how the book plays with the concept of the "Book of Transfiguration" which also serves as convenient transitions. The book is decidedly absurd, standing out to me when Black is wearing a kilt and Potts at the clubhouse pulls up his kilt and says "You've got a lovely hairy bum". I also loved how this book deals with identities, such as Roma, Romanian and English. Only complaint is that it is so similar in plot to "Stars and Bars".
I did not really finish this book because I could not bear it. My bookmark is and will always be stuck on page 36.
The odd flash of brilliance in a very patchy novel that doesn’t really know what it is.
I was delightfully sucked into the vortex of this book, with multiple and sometimes cumbersome streams flowing in parallel, wondering what the heck was going on, hoping it would all turn out well, and then, it just seemed to end. I'm not normally one for perfect, tidy endings, but I did wish for a little more here.

Definitely a book of two halves and on balance, probably better that the second half is the more entertaining. A beautifully written novel which, despite the slow pace, develops into a gripping story incorporating a couple of truly laugh-out-loud moments. Possibly only worth 3.5 but as it's Mr Boyd...
Boring once you leave the introduction, not picking up again until more than 2/3 of the way through, Armadillo is the Fremdschämen-filled story of a stalker who finds his stalking justified, supported be an unlikeable cast of one-dimensional characters (who are sometimes completely indistinguishable from one another, especially in the case of the female members of his family).

Crisp prose and vivid descriptions all around. Infidelity and some annoying characters leave a bit to be desired. The protagonist's profession is somewhat dubious in the morality department.
