I switched back from audiobooks for this one. It took me a little while to change over to Etta Mae's viewpoint, but then it was a fast read. The climactic scene is a humdinger!

Word of warning - this is set fairly early in the series. There was also one major inconsistency that I couldn't quite reconcile, but it didn't really affect my enjoyment.

The Miss Julia books are the M&Ms of the literary world. I feel a little guilty, but I just can't stop.

This is the first book by Ann B Ross that I have picked up to read and I cannot believe that I have not found this series before. While not reading the others meant that I was not familiar with all the characters, I did not feel like I was lost or behind on the going ons in this series. The author did a great job bringing the reader up to speed without dragging out the story with facts from past books.

Etta Mae and her friends had me laughing with tears throughout the entire story. I know Etta Mae, I have visited her trailor, and I have hung out with her. She was someone I could pictures and could see how her life was lived. Although, not an easy life, she lived a real life and lived it with as much gusto as anyone possibly can.

I am absolutely positive that I will be going back and checking out the rest of the Miss Julia series. If you are looking for a fun and easy read do not wait to pick this book up.

Ugh. Whatever. Etta Mae is doing her best; she's just surrounded by sub-optimal conditions and friends.

I received an advance uncorrected proof of this book from a giveaway on here. With that said there were a few spelling errors, but it didn't ruin the book. This book was very cute and has a bit of southern charm to it. Etta Mae Wiggins had trouble in marriage, trouble getting respect, and the list goes on. She felt that the only way to get the respect that she deserved was to marry the richest and most powerful guy in town. She's a gold digger if you get my drift or that's the way she was portrayed in my eyes while reading this book. The characters came to life in this book and I enjoyed it. I highly recommend that you read this book.

When in Raleigh, buy a book which takes place in Raleigh. I had read, and enjoyed, the first few Miss Julia books many years ago but quit after book 4 or 5. Ann Ross took a secondary character in the Miss Julia books and began a new series about her so I thought I'd give it a try. It was okay - pretty silly but sometimes silly is just what the doctor ordered.

I actually really liked this one. I laughed out loud a lot and I enjoyed learning more of Etta Mae's "back story". It was also fun "seeing" Ms. Julia from EM's early perspective. It was a fun read!

A Miss Julia book told from another perspective. While the story is a little unbelievable, I enjoyed seeing the world through Etta Mae's life.

This is a funny book, with all the spunk and adventure of all Ann Ross novels. I laughed out loud and found myself marveling and the author's ability to create such larger-than-life characters. I breezed through it. It's a fun escape!

I definitely like Etta Mae a lot. Maybe more than Miss Julia. She deserves another book
