The only reason this book is getting 3 stars is because of Caldon. I loved his character.

Dare I say Jaren bored me with his niceness and inability to make a move. Kiva's inner turmoil was so repetitive and I felt like even when the time came to make a decision the circumstances made it so it so that she really only had one choice. I also feel like many of the "plot twists" just didn't have the impact they were supposed to. 

I'm surprised that many others found this better than the first book. Regardless, I am still invested in the overall world so hopefully I love the third book.

I liked it but the ending was obvious and Kiva did a lot of really dumb things even though she’s supposed to be smart?

The book was kind of torturous for me personally bc I couldn’t deal w all the deceit lol but it was great and again I didn’t totally see the ending coming. Immediately getting book 3!!!
