Susan Hendricks uses this book to showcase the lives of Abby, Libby, and their families, and lets their vibrance outshine the normally sensationalized detail on their deaths and the identity of the murderer. While this book works to showcase who the girls were, Hendricks also works to explore the downsides of social media and online sleuthing in murder cases like this one. Overall, a really thoughtful read.
It did feel odd for me, initially, that this book was published before the trial of the accused, however, after reaching the point at which Becky realized that there really is no closure in the possibility of knowing, this choice makes sense.

Thank you Hachette Books for the gifted copy!

In 2017, two teenage girls were murdered on a hiking trail in Delphi, Indiana. This book is an investigative look into that crime which is now known as the Delphi murders. The author is a news anchor who has reported on several high profile murder cases, and for that reason, her perspective was really interesting, detailed, and professional. At the same time, she formed a close relationship with the families and her writing and involvement always felt compassionate. I feel like she truly cared about giving a voice to the victims versus focusing on the killer, and she succeeds in that.

However, I wish this book had been written after the murder trial; as I write this, the trial is ongoing. Because the trial hadn't started yet when the book ends, there's still a lot unknown about the murders as well as the conclusion for the suspect, so it just feels like an incomplete book in that sense.
