This is a beautiful, timeless book on visual journaling. I'm sad that it's out of print and is hard to find used.

Update: I bought the Kindle edition so I could return my borrowed copy to my friend. And I found a $7 used copy.

If I had read this after the first book that gave me my first "aha" moment about the value of documenting and illustrating one's life--[b:The Principles of Uncertainty|627055|The Principles of Uncertainty|Maira Kalman|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442894337s/627055.jpg|613404]--then it would've made a much better impression on me, no doubt. I have, however, read many books about journaling, art, and the combination, and this one just felt kind of old-fashioned and, at some points, pedantic to me. I did love seeing her illustrations, but the formatting of the book was poorly done: it crammed her illustrations into the margins of the pages, leaving them wide and blank the rest of the time, and the magical colored full-pages in the last section were far too condensed to appreciate, or even read well.
