For the writing, I gave that a 7 out of 10. The word “smirk” was still used too much, but it was a little better than book 3. Aside from that, I do like the author’s writing style. I love the way everything is described in detail and keeps you engaged throughout the story. Keep in mind that the entire series is told in first person, so the writing is not going to be as elegant as a third-person POV. However, I still enjoyed it a lot. I don’t normally like first-person series, but I did like this one.
For the plot, I gave that a 7 out of 10. For the most part, I knew that we were trying to lead up to the final battle, but because everyone else besides Keera and Gerarda were now losing their shit, it took a while for that plan to be on track. I, personally, feel that the book was too short for the final battles of this series. The battle of Volcar was detailed and we did have to sit with that a bit. I did love the way everyone who had become an Amber Fae leveled-up a bit in that battle. However, I felt like the final battle outside of Koratha just went way too quickly. Not to give any spoilers, but there is one scene that would have been truly epic if it had been drawn out more. Overall, it was fine, but I think I just wanted more.
For the characters, I gave that an 8 out of 10. I like how much Keera has grown as a character, and I did appreciate the struggle she had with everyone as they were working through their own issues. Serra is basically catatonic in the wake of her sister’s death and with Nikolai missing. Riven has disappeared in the hunt for Nikolai. Feron is afraid of full on war and doesn’t want to push. Vrail has also retreated into herself with Nikolai’s disappearance. That has left Keera and the Shades to handle the overall preparations of the war. On the one hand, Keera is trying to be patient and reasonable because she understands. Everyone waited for her to pull herself together, but she also has a lot of frustration because she knows she needs their help. Eventually, they all do come through, and things proceed more smoothly for her. I also love that she stuck to her beliefs. After it’s found out that she is a Faemother and can create more fae like herself, everyone is very adamant that she turns everyone and makes them an army. However, she puts her foot down because she knows she won’t be able to handle the consequences of what will happen to them in the war. I did appreciate that a lot. I also loved at the end when she decided that she wanted a year for herself away from Riven. She wanted to find out who she was without the Kingdom and Damien and the war, and I found that so refreshing.
For the world-building, I gave that a 7 out of 10. I love how Damien used the seals breaking as a way to bring back the wateyshirak. I really enjoyed that. I found it interesting that, with the creation of a new Faemother, we also got new powers that had not been seen before. I also did like that a lot of these new powers made sense for the characters. For a couple of characters, we didn’t know them as well, so it’s hard to say if the powers made sense for them. Spoiler here, but the main thing I didn’t love is the loss of the second sun. In a world that’s had 2 suns for thousands of years, it would make sense that their ecosystem would depend on the additional sunlight, so I would have liked to know how the land was affected, or if the return of magic made it so that it didn’t matter. That is the biologist in me just wondering how that would work.
Overall, I gave this 3.6 stars. I really enjoyed the series. It was an average 3.5 stars to me.

The final book of the halfling saga 🥹. I loved Keera’s character development throughout the entire saga and to have her be happy at the end was worth it. Having watched Gwyn’s character development change was tragic but unfortunately, one you could see coming. I did wish the final battle sequence was longer or there were more battles but I understand the build up.
