honestly I wasn’t in the mood to read it so it kinda impacted my experience. Overall it was definitely a good book!! if I read it at a different time I think it would’ve been a 5 star read

This series started out so strong and then dropped off as the books went on.

It felt as though Riven was pushed aside and became a secondary character. Nothing like the strong, rebel leading “Shadow” we saw early on.

It felt as though all character development went out the window. The relationship between Keera and Riven was pretty much non existent.

The first 50% of this one just felt long and drawn out.

The ending was great and I did really enjoy finishing this story but it all together felt a little sloppy.

It's the end of the Halfling Saga. This series is dark so I knew that the final book would be a rough read but I wasn't expecting how emotional I got at the end of the book.

We pick up three weeks after the events of A Vicious Game. Our group of protagonists have been fractured by Damien's villainy, their own lies and the losses they suffered in that final confrontation. Riven took off immediately, leaving Keera to shoulder the responsibilities of the rebellion on her own. Keera desperately tries to find a way to defeat Damien, but without the support of her friends and the rest of the council, she is struggling. As a new Faemother she feels the weight of not only the rebellion, but of the Elverin as a whole.

There is a lot going on in An Honored Vow. I reread the previous three books in anticipation of this release and I would recommend anyone else diving into this final novel take the time to do the reread. There are a lot of small callbacks to events and details in the rest of the series, especially the mythology of the Elverin, that make more sense with the context.

We have to remember the events of these books are pretty condensed. Keera is not far removed from the Halfling we met in A Broken Blade who had spent decades numbing her pain with wine. I loved that Melissa Blair kept Keera close to that pain and the longing for oblivion during the book. It made her choices more profound and especially the path she chose at the end. Her relationship with Riven is also completely shaped by the pain she's lived with and how she wants to live differently after she is able to lay down her blade.

The scenes in this book that packed the most punch were the dream sequences with Keera and Damien. Keera is done with his shit and has come into her own and I was wowed every time she threw down with him in a dream. Especially because it is Keera controlling them in this book. She has reclaimed her power.

I think this book is going to take me a while to process. Overall I loved the series and the conclusion, but it was a lot to take in all at once. I think I'll reread the series as a whole when I have some downtime and I can really savor the world building across all four books.

An Honored Vow is an epic end to a beautifully written saga.

This book absolutely solidified this series’ standing as an outstanding example of what Romantasy can be as a subgenre. This conclusion cashes in on every theme that was outstanding and available from the preceding books, and it does so with care and nuance.

Comparing the first to the last book of this series is difficult because of how much the writer and Keera changed–while the first book felt formulaic and almost like a series of beloved tropes, the proceeding books matured to tell an important story.

Fantastic character developments and arcs, touching cultural practices, and real struggles for real people really set this series apart from others of its kind. I loved the way relationships among the characters were explored and developed.

I would absolutely recommend this series to romantasy lovers who are looking for something more substantial in the genre. Impeccable.

I was actually really disappointed with the final book in this series. The plot just continued to be recycled throughout the book and I wish some of the characters would have been more present. Easily could have been that this wasn’t a good audiobook read for me.
Overall the series was amazing, so I still highly recommend reading this!

The utter devastation from this book 💔 BRENNA
