When I first read the summary for this book, I knew I wanted to read it. I loved the exploration of the different movements/projects (MMIW and the Two Feather Project), the Blackfeet festivities, and descriptions of culture on the reservation. Plus throw in a mystery/thriller element and I was totally excited for it.
Looking for Smoke does a fantastic job of giving the reader some insight into these issues and shining a light on some of the hardships these native communities endure.
With that being said, I found that the middle section of this book really dragged for me and seemed repetitive moving around and around in circles as the main characters tried to unravel who was responsible for these murders. The ending was not terrible but also not fully satisfying.
Decent read for me - would recommend if you are highly interested in current day Native American issues/culture.

Loved the attention to MMIW and other important themes. I felt like I knew who it was pretty quickly and wanted to just get to the end, but the rest was needed to highlight the complexity of the lives of the characters.
