A book whose writing style failed to impress - I have to say that the plot of the book is amazing! It does reinvent mystery and differentiates itself as a book. Having said that, the writing style was not really for me and I had to drag myself through several of the parts. I feel the ending could have been strengthened further and dedicated more time.
SpoilerI think the best part was Lauren's grandma being the mystery narrator.
Its quite unique teen who-dun-it, isn't it?

This super intense mystery kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I read it. Told in multiple perspectives, it is exceptionally well-paced. Everyone has something to hide, which is slowly revealed. Cobell does a fabulous job of crafting an excellent mystery and bringing much needed attention to the issues surrounding the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. Highly recommended for grades 9 & up.

2.5 stars, rounding up to 3. It's a decent story, but nothing stellar. The first person point of view and simple writing style dragged my rating down drastically. I debated putting this book on my TBR when I first saw it, and decided to read it because it matched the January 2025 postcard for the Your Adventure Awaits reading challenge.

It was an ok book, I listened to it on audio, and was not really engaged with the narrators, which lessens my likelihood to enjoy a book. I was very confused about who was who in the start, and it only started to make sense towards the end.
I think it is loosely based on things that indigenous Americans face every day, though it is fictional. Which is very sad to think about these young women vanishing, or being murdered/raped/assaulted and for the most part they wear the blame, and it is assumed drugs are at fault, or they took risks - by walking at night by themselves - shocking I know. So even though I didn’t think the writing, or narration was anything noteworthy- the topic certainly was. Thankyou for sharing
